Pavel Michalek was trained in the Czech Republic and received his full Board Certification in 2000. Between 2005-2010 he was a Lead Consultant Anaesthetist for Airway Management in Antrim Area Hospital, Antrim, Northern Ireland. Since 2010, Pavel has been working in General University Hospital which is a large tertiary teaching medical center in the heart of historical Prague.
He was awarded the DESA (Diploma of the European Society of Anaesthesiology) in 2008. In 2013 he graduated with distinction as a “Master of Science” (MSc) in Pain Management and Practice at the Queens University in Belfast. In 2021 he completed his management education at the Business Institute in Prague and received the degree „Master of Business Administration“ (MBA). Pavel received the Fellowship of EAMS in 2019.
He is a founder member of the Airway Management Section of the „Czech Society of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care“, a member of the „Difficult Airway Society“ (DAS) since 2005, and a member of the “European Airway Management Society” (EAMS) since 2013. He organizes regular basic and advanced workshops in airway management in the Czech Republic. He has participated in regular airway teaching workshops and courses worldwide since 2001.
Pavel has been involved in teaching and research for many years. He has authored several books, many articles, and has worked as an Associated Editor or reviewer for medical journals. When not working, he likes to play tennis, explore mountain summits, or play his electroacoustic guitar. His winter season is always devoted to all types of skiing experiences.
